Memory Cards, CD-ROMs, Direct Connect, Wireless??
Thursday, April 26th, 2007What is your preferred embroidery design format? Memory Cards? CDs? A wifi connection?
At one point, it was basically memory cards or nothing. Well, memory cards and an empty wallet! They were not cheap, often upwards of $200 a piece. However, we’ve come a long way since the early days of embroidery machines, that’s for sure. So what is your favorite way to get your embroidery designs to your machine? We’ve noticed a general decline in memory cards over the years, mostly because of the higher price and extra step in getting the designs onto the computer. The switch to multi-format CD-ROM is pretty much inevitable it seems. Manufacturers like it because they can release one product that targets multiple users (and CD-ROMs cost them almost nothing to produce). Licensing fees make up a lot of the cost involved in some of those designer packs that are so popular. Another popular way to get embroidery designs is to download them directly to your computer from the internet. This must have been invented for us “Gotta have it right now” Americans! Of course, the drawback to this is that it is up to you to create a backup of your designs in case of the dreaded hard drive crash.
